What color is this sheep?

Oops! There are TWO sheep here. They are mother (brown) and daughter (grey). Let's work on the lamb's color. Dad is a UK Gotland.

Basic Color - brown or black?

Pattern - white, badgerface, mouflon, English blue, grey, solid?

Spotting - spots, no spots

Extension - dominant, not dominant

Answer:

Basic color: BLACK (BB/Bb)

Pattern: GREY (Agg/Aa)

Spotting: NO SPOTS (SS/Ss)

Extension: NOT DOMINANT (E+/E+)

Do you believe it? We got all 8 genes. This little girl is nailed! So, how did we get BB/Bb? Dad is BB/BB, Mom is Bb/Bb, since each can only contribute one of the pair, Dad gives BB, Mom gives Bb. Pattern: Dad is Agg/Agg, Mom is Aa/Aa (she's known to be E+/E+). Spotting: Mom: SS/SS, Dad: Ss/Ss - all his offspring out of spotted ewes were spotted, so even though theoretically he could be SS/Ss, it's likely he's Ss/Ss. Both parents are E+/E+.
